Academics at the University of the West of England went on strike yesterday in protest against the management's restructuring plans. All university readers, principle lecturers, and professors were forced to reapply for their own jobs. The university also wants to cut back on senior posts by 25% and to subject hourly-paid staff to a review. The UCU received a clear mandate from its members to call for industrial action; 66% who voted in the ballot supported strike action.
